Company Philosophy

Ernest de la Torre is the principal designer and founder of de la Torre Design Studio. Drawing upon his knowledge and keen eye for art & design, de la Torre creates spaces that are layered, nuanced, refined and always impactful. De la Torre consistently breaks new ground for clients, discerning their needs and custom tailoring surroundings to be a perfect fit.

Raised in Lake Forest, Illinois, de la Torre’s passion for design was inspired by the local classic architecture of David Adler and Mies van der Rohe. He went on to earn degrees from Sotheby’s Fine and Decorative Arts in London and Columbia University. After embarking on his design career at Peter Marino Architect, de la Torre later collaborated with esteemed hotelier Ian Schrager as well as Ralph Lauren Home.

De la Torre founded his eponymous design studio in 2001 and has since been transforming distinguished homes ever since. Now an award-winning designer, his work is featured in publications such as Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful and Luxe magazine.

Areas of Expertise / Recent Projects
Ernest de la Torre opened his own design studio in 2001, after obtaining a master’s in Fine and Decorative Arts from Sotheby’s Institute in London, and training at Peter Marino Architects, David Collins in London, and Ralph Lauren Home. His work spans a broad range of styles from traditional to modern, and reflects his imaginative design aesthetic- an unusual mix of color and exotic textiles, as well as antiques and custom furniture. Recent projects include a luxurious French art deco home in Palm Beach, featuring bold fire and water colors designed to complement a unique contemporary art collection, as well as a club owner’s fantasy in New Jersey, marked by black and white barbershop stripes and tented ceilings. A complete restoration of an eighteen bedroom historic home, featuring period architecture, French antiques and custom pieces, is currently underway in New York’s fabled Tuxedo Park. Ernest was featured as one of House Beautiful’s “Top 25 Rising Design Stars” in 2003, and in the prestigious Andrew Martin Interior Design Review in 2004.
