FR Review:
One of the city’s best dealers, Abraham Moheban & Son specializes in fine antique European and Oriental rugs. The company also cleans, restores, repairs and appraises antique and semi-antique decorative rugs and carpets. All cleaning is done in-house and is heavily supervised. This family-run business is now being managed by a fourth-generation Moheban, David, and services clients mainly in Manhattan, with a few jobs in the Hamptons and Westchester County.
The firm was established in 1961 by Abraham Moheban, a Persian-born craftsman who is considered one of the pioneers of the rug trade here in America. The company works mostly with designers and architects and boasts an impressive roster of well heeled residential and celebrity clients. The fi rm is a member of the Oriental Rugs Importers Association and ASID. Aside from the Aubussons and Orientals, the inventory includes Oushaks from Turkey, Agras from India and Tabriz from Persia.
Enthusiastic clients rave about this firm’s wide array of high-quality rugs and the exquisite repair and restoration work it does. Though prices may be expensive, references agree that the exquisite quality is definitely worth the cost. Indeed, sources say, this firm’s impeccable taste, knowledge of the industry and meticulous attention to detail make them one of a select handful of masters of the rug business in New York.
Representative Client Comments:
“Beautiful repair and restoration job.” “Their inventories are just exquisite.” “Wouldn't hesitate to go back.” “They understand and appreciate the history of the rugs.” “Great eye for quality.”
