FR Review:
Kinected is the pilates studio for those who want more than just a good workout--it is for those who want to treat or prevent injury, beef up their own body knowledge and reach new goals. The wide range of individual and group pilates sessions offered are augmented by Gyrotonic (mixes principles of yoga, dance, tai chi and swimming), Rolfing (manual reworking of connective tissues) and physical therapy services, with the goal of filling the gap between "movement and medicine." Kinected places a heavy emphasis on education, and not just within its educational certification program: client sessions are peppered with anatomical references and pointers on how to strengthen this or that. Those with serious conditions appreciate how well the in-house staff coordinates with the outsourced PT (to New York Sports Med), and Kinected provides a physician referral network of specialists in the New York area. No, Kinected could never be accused of approaching pilates from within a vacuum, and the staff is "bright and bubbly."

Kinected was founded by husband-and-wife team Matt and Carrie McCulloch in 2008. Matt is a master pilates instructor and former dancer and Carrie is an MD, making Kinected perhaps the only pilates studio in NYC with a medical doctor on staff. Matt still teaches between 15 and 20 hours a week, and clients sing his praises: one client often describes him to friends as a "genius" and "wizard" without any trace of hyperbole. The McCullochs are supported by a part-time staff of 15 instructors, all of whom are certified and hand-picked for their strong backgrounds in "moving experience," whether former dancers or avid rock climbers. Rates are competitive for NYC: singles pilates sessions (55 minutes) range from $90 to $130, with individual rates coming down significantly in groups of two or three. Mat classes are $18 per session and classes are limited to 14 people. The 3,000 sq. foot space isn't opulent, but airy, pleasant and well organized. Kinected's strong following for having come into being in just 2008 speaks volumes on the McCulloch's dedication to fitness and wellness, particularly Matt's long-standing history as a pilates instructor.

Representative Client Comments:
"I did a lot of research before picking a pilates studio and Kinected has some of the best instructors--I go there nearly every day now." "The facilities are pleasant and there are no crowding issues." "A great workout." "Matt was the first person I met who truly understood my injury--within three sessions he had me feeling 75% better." "Despite being so smart and capable, Matt is incredibly humble and easygoing." "I recommend them all the time--in fact, I recently gave private sessions as a wedding gift." "The spacious and airy studio runs in a very organized fashion and all the instructors I've encountered have been friendly and talented." "The female-to-male ratio is surprisingly high."
