FR Review:
Okay, dog sweaters may be considered unnecessary by some. Interestingly, however, most vets now say that dogs who become used to 72 degree ambient temperatures (read: all New York City dogs) need sweaters just as much as people need coats. And clearly on those most frigid days (what happened to global warming?), a Park Avenue dog without a coat seems just neglected. And no one does it classier than Canine Styles. These are coats that most Preppies would be happy to wear in people sizes. The Nantucket heavy worsted wool cable-knit sweaters are particularly becoming, and at $75 for a 14" girth, not a bad price. Similarly, the Sun Valley Fair Isles and buttoned coats are hilariously fetching at the same general price. Cable-knit cashmeres will run $165 for 14", but just one will last you several seasons, and is quite a bargain compared to the lower quality and bizarrely cut (albeit less expensive) Ralph Lauren variety. Also, the Canine Styles coats are designed with proper dog proportions and functions in mind, unlike much of the competition.

Dog mats and beds are also uniquely fabricated with the highest quality materials and trimmings. The carry bags look as if they could have been purchased at Bally or Hermès. And new colors and styles are released each season. Standard dog treats and grooming products might best be purchased at standard shops.

The dog grooming operation at each of the different four locations vary a bit in personality and cut. The Upper East side location is well known for providing excellent service and style. But the specific cut can vary depending upon the groomer that is available that day; thus, if owners are particular, it is recommended that appointments are made well in advance with a particular stylist. Many cuts are available as well -- puppy cut, puff cut, fluff cut -- so you need to be clear on your preference and communicate that directly to the groomer. The cost for a standard Westie grooming is $110. Most owners groom their dog about every six weeks, with home washing in between. One of the better Manhattan grooming salons, and most clients would not not consider going anywhere else.

Representative Client Comments:
"I would be embarrassed to have a dog coat from anywhere else. The rest look so tacky by comparison." "While manybe over-the-top, their coats at $85 are well-priced and look as if they could have been purchased at Bonpoint. Totally lovely compared to the $225 Ralph Lauren coats which are overwrought." "The cashmeres sweaters really are worth the price. Last forever. Never pull. Wash or dry clean nicely." "Grooming totally depends upon the particular person you get that day. So best to develop a relationship with one person and stick to it." "A breath of fresh puppy air compared to most of the other Manhattan gilded pet operations."

Project Description & Comments:
Having shopped almost everywhere for my dog, I can now definitely say that Canine Styles is the best. Not only are the products as attractive as I would purchase for myself at the best stores on Madison Avenue, but the quality lasts forever. The tan corduroy bed is just so classic that it never needs updating and washes out perfectly. Same with the (rather expensive) cashmere sweaters. At $150, they are expensive but last season-after-season. Everything else I have purchased along the way elsewhere seemed cute at first, but did not pass the time test.
        Cost of Project: $0 - 300

Project Description & Comments:
I was, without a doubt, wowed by the quality of the dog beds and sweaters. While quite expensive they seem original enough and interesting to be compelling at those prices. But when you get to the dog treats, standard leashes and products like Angels' Eyes- go elsewhere. The price of $40 for Angels' Eyes looked like too much, and I when checked Petco, it was just $36.99 on sale today for $24.97. Nevertheless, Canine Styles is good value for the stuff that lasts.

Project Description & Comments:
After 5 hours waiting in a cage and a $150 bill for grooming my dog ended up in the Vet for food poisoning another $500 bill. The dog got there at 11am in perfect health and left at 5 pm, after many calls asking why it was taking so long a grooming that usually takes 2-2 1/2 hours, poor baby with the worse ever diarrhea. I complained but the lady said the owner just doesn’t care. Stay away from this place.
