FR Review:
Customers claim that once you wear a shirt from Cego Custom Shirtmaker, you will never again feel good in anything "off the rack." Cego specializes solely in men's dress shirts and "hits the sweet spot" between fit, durability and value. Owner Carl Goldberg has been in the business for over 25 years, perfecting the "slim fit" look that his customers adore. Goldberg has been flexible in lowering the minimum order to two shirts (from five) but repeat customers typically order "several at a time."
The "candid" and "meticulous" Goldberg measures customers in his midtown studio, where fabrics and styles are discussed and then selected. The customer receives the first test shirt a few weeks later, which he is encouraged to take for "a test wear and wash" before Goldberg makes any final tweaks. Once everything is as it should be, the remaining shirts are completed and final delivery is made three to four weeks later. Shirts start at $110 and go up to $400 for special fabrics, but most Cego shirts fall in the $125 to $225 range. Cego is recommended as a "fantastic value" and the best "bang for your buck."
Representative Client Comments:
"Work with Carl, and he'll work with you to find the best fit possible." "Carl is the sort of garment industry character that doesn't exist anymore--but should." "Cego shirts are far and away better than any priced lower and are as good--or better--than ones costing double." "Fabric as good as Thomas Pink or Thom Browne, but a much better fit." "Whereas most places just measure the neck and arm length, Carl takes about ten different measurements."
