FR Review:
Influenced by European design with a bohemian slant, Janet and Carolina Rauber are two sisters whose bold styles are unmistakable. The duo aren’t kidding with their tagline, “Color your world;” many of their designs feature bright pinks, reds, yellows and purples. The dialogue between old and new is striking. You might see a traditional straight back dining room chair upholstered in magenta fabric, or leopard print on a conventional ottoman.

Janet and Carolina Rauber have bachelor's degrees in interior design from San Diego State and Parsons respectively. After graduating, Janet did high-end corporate work with GN Associates, designing the offices of GE and NBC Universal, and Carolina traveled around Europe and took interior design classes in Paris. In 1999, the pair started their own business based in New York. Most of their projects are in Manhattan, but they’ve also done renovations in Millbrook, Tuxedo Park, Los Angeles, San Diego and Paris. The Rauber & Rauber style appeals to a range - their youngest client is twenty-one years old and their oldest is eighty. Because the firm is comprised only of the two Rauber sisters, they usually have less than three concurrent projects and can devote a lot of personal attention to clients.

Rauber & Rauber charges a high design fee, which goes towards detailed schematics and contractor bids. They add an average markup on net for fixtures and furnishings, retail for fabrics, and an average markup on antiques and construction costs. An added bonus is that Janet and Carolina visit the project sites every day at no additional hourly. The pair is willing to take on renovations with smaller, more modest budgets. That fact, along with their vivid approach, could make them a firm to look at for younger clients, hoping to get their feet wet in the world of interior design.
