FR Review:
While most of South Florida interior decorating focuses on contemporary eclectic, Tracy Dunn prides herself on a traditional style. Though many of her interiors could easily be transferred to a home up north, Dunn also inserts natural, and sometimes nautical items in order to contextualize a room. Dunn’s designs also have unique touches. (For example taking a garden stool and making it into a lamp.) We hear that her projects are more suited to an Old Mediterranean or Key West exteriors than to New Mediterranean or ultra-modern ones.

Dunn started out in fashion. After receiving a degree in fashion merchandising from Florida State University, she went on to become a buyer for a department store. Dunn notes similar skills apply in both fashion and interior design; for example scale, texture and color. As family and friends began to ask her for decorating advice, the business grew. Dunn left department store buying behind and opened her own firm in 1999. Dunn is the only employee at her firm, but hires people as needed. She usually tackles one or two large project along with four to five smaller projects at once, and almost all of her work is residential. Almost all of Dunn’s projects are single-family homes ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 square feet and located in South Florida, though she has done work for clients in Vermont. Dunn is quite affordable, and charges a low markup over net and an average hourly. She sometimes charges a reasonable retainer for larger jobs, which is deducted against purchases over time. Dunn is a designer on the rise, who provides a different view from the usual Florida style. We hear that she is as charming as her designs would suggest.
