FR Review:
Whether modernizing a carriage house or softening a glass facade with classic interiors, SVZ blurs the lines of style to create true interpretations of the client at hand. Rich in color, texture and pattern yet still composed and delicate, the details of each unique project invite those inside to “melt into the room.” Lacquered millwork and bronze finishes revive the look of classic marble floors and velvet upholstery; the work has the integrity of the past painted in the shades of today. Described as both fearless and fun, principal Sayre Victoria Ziskin has a way of getting inside the client’s head and delivering what they desire, but with subtle risks only a designer could dream up - like a pastel sofa or black marble in a chevron backsplash. On top of feeling understood, clients are put further at ease by this firm’s reputation for unbeatable project management. Few in the industry have a back office as organized as SVZ, enabling Ziskin and her team of three to take on up to ten major renovations at once–even under insane (read: three month) deadlines.

Ziskin’s handle on the administrative side of her business stems from her days in commercial advertising; while that career path certainly satisfied her driven nature, the right side of her brain yearned for more. Always inclined towards fashion and art, Ziskin pursued interiors at UCLA’s design school (she already had a BA from UC Santa Barbara). Halfway through her graduate degree, Ziskin was commissioned to design The Churchill restaurant in West Hollywood. The project jump-started her career and she opened SVZ in 2010. A California native, Ziskin splits her work equally between San Francisco and LA (typically in Venice). Those up north rely on SVZ to lighten up their structured style while the SoCal crowd looks to the firm to help tame their open space. For all projects SVZ charges a retainer for the first 70-100 hours and then a standard hourly. Like the the rest of the design process with SVZ, billing is reported as being “a breeze.”

Representative Client Comments:
"Sayre has a more sophisticated taste than most; it’s more natural and less kitschy." "Her solutions are unique but always respect tradition." "It was a always a dialogue with her; I always felt comfortable speaking up when I didn't agree with a decision or if I wanted an alternative option to keep under budget." "So impressed with how successful she is at such a young age." "The process was SO easy, from planning to tracking orders to billing. Made it so that the actual design part was a blast." "Sayre is just a genuinely sweet and fun person; very insightful and reasonable." "She did my best friend's home (I'm over there all the time) so when it was our turn to renovate, we didn't even hesitate to call Sayre even though we wanted something completely different in our home. It's more that she has a clear taste than style, and we were confident she could deliver."
