One of the largest and most highly regarded A/V and integration firms in New York, AVS nonetheless earns praise from sources for being “as friendly as a family-run firm.” Started in 1977 as a small shop, the company has grown over the years to a full staff of 72, capable of designing and installing complex systems that integrate everything from the doorbell to the air conditioner. Audio Video Systems’ specialties include home theater rooms, distributed audio systems, motorized shades, lighting control and distributed video systems though “they can do it all,” including managing cloud storage and IT for clients. The range of brands covered includes Crestron, Lutron, Savant, Sonance and many more. The firm’s techs will integrate security systems into an existing setup (though they don’t provide security themselves).
Designers and contractors praise AVS’s eye for detail and ability to coordinate, while clients are repeatedly impressed by follow-through and willingness to please after the job is finished (AVS’s work comes with a warranty). Reflecting the firm’s status, prices are not cheap, but clients agree that the quality “could not be higher.” They also praise the training, saying AVS’s staff will both install a top-notch system and teach you how to use it, a key factor for those who have been left high and dry with eight remotes. Admittedly, this might not be a great choice for very small jobs—those in need of a simple flatscreen installation would be advised to go elsewhere. However, for “truly remarkable” systems that are “future-proofed” to keep with the rapid pace of technology, Audio Video Systems is on many shortlists.
