FR Review:
A third-generation family business, Joseph Biunno Ltd. is known for its immaculate reproductions and expert restoration. Additionally, principal Joseph Biunno makes custom furniture, mostly for architects and designers, many of whom call his works masterpieces. In recent years, Biunno has expanded the shop into a diversified workroom, offering custom drapery hardware, custom legs and antique locks and keys. Sources marvel at his staff of artisans—experts in carving, cabinetmaking, turning, staining, gilding, metalwork, polishing and painting–and say a visit to the workroom is truly worthwhile.

Clients compliment Biunno’s professionalism and reliability, as well as his good-natured personality. He earns respect for his perfectionism and highly analytical mind, which allows him to solve tricky problems. Biunno works extensively with some of the top designers and architects in the city, and also works with some private clients. The business was recently included in a New York Originals book and TV segment on a city guide to classic mom and pop shops.

Representative Client Comments:
“He can do anything from Art Deco to 17th-century Flemish bureaus.” “He’s enormously creative with special finishes and creates the most marvelous valences and architectural details.” “Extremely high quality for an extremely high cost, but worth it.” “One of the last true craftsmen in New York.” “Very versatile—they have the ability to do truly anything.” “He obsesses over every detail.” “When I called to inquire about restoring about ten antique pieces, he was not very interested.” “Good but not fabulous.” “Joe restored a 17th-century European inlaid cabinet that looked as if it had been in a basement for 300 years, bringing it back to life.”
