FR Review:
Known mostly for her traditional-style gut renovations in the city, Ethelind Coblin is said to take a highly collaborative approach with her clients. Clients commend Coblin's soothing and charming personality, and say working with her firm is low-key and relaxed in a very professional way. We are told Coblin and her associates are willing to take on every aspect of a project, from the architecture to the interior design, including selections of furnishings, finishes and lighting as well as designing individual pieces of furniture.
This firm of fourteen has been in business since 1989 with Ethelind Coblin and Jennifer Judge as the principals. Coblin holds undergraduate degrees from both the University of Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Judge's business background stems from her Babson College years in Wellesley, MA before earning her Bachelor of Architecture at CCNY. The firm's projects vary in size from the fairly small, to full gut renovations. They're happy to take on a bathroom or a kitchen and we are told Coblin enjoys small, challenging renovations under $100,000 as well as soup to nuts renovations that can exceed the million-dollar mark. The firm typically takes on eight to ten projects each year, in addition to consulting work on behalf of co-ops and condos.
Nearly all of the firm's work is Manhattan residential, although Coblin will take on the occasional project in the Hamptons, as well as Westchester or Fairfield County. Coblin also works with apartment buildings designing lobbies, exterior facade renovations, hallways, and recreation centers. Recent projects include an apartment renovation on Central Park West and several lobby/hallway renovations. The firm works on a fixed or a standard hourly fee basis.
