FR Review:
With a holistic approach and an appreciation for a wide variety of worldly architectural styles, Campion Platt strives to produce chic, comprehensive creations. All are poignantly stylistic with a modern edge and an earnest nod to former days of glory within the appropriate context. High-rise apartments often get a personality of cosmopolitan dash, while an 1850's Sag Harbor home retains its period sea theme but with the incorporation of modern twists. Sources are quick to praise Platt's outgoing personality, thoroughness in providing weekly budget reports and close supervision of contractors.

Platt grew up in Switzerland and knew as a teenager that he wanted to pursue architecture. After graduating from the U. Michigan and Columbia, he created the firm in 1984. For about twenty years, the firm remained small with about six employees and six to ten major projects a year, but its recent success has allowed for growth and it is now expanding to about sixteen people and thirty projects a year. The staff includes many with interior design expertise, which is integral to the design plans. Platt frequently travels to Europe and the Far East to purchase art and furniture for his client—and to incorporate exotic influences and distinct personalities into the work.

Some clients say Platt can be overly structured about his visions, but the end product is always superior, although quite pricey. Most of the residential projects are gut renovations that generally hover around the half million-dollar mark. Typical of his work is the recent 4,800-square-foot gut renovation of a modern townhouse in Manhattan, featuring a garden, new finishes and custom furniture. He also designed SoHo's MercBar—an amalgamation of Adirondack chic, Wild West ruggedness and New York hip. Platt's architectural fees and product markups are in the standard range with standard oversight fees, but the materials costs can fall at the higher end of the spectrum. AD 100, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2012.
