FR Review:
With more than a nod to the mid-century masters, Daniel Romualdez is creating an outstanding reputation of his own among New York's architectural, social, and fashion glitterati. Romualdez has that special "je ne sais quoi" that strikes a perfect balance between the high and the humble. While most pieces have a special provenance, it can be Louis XV, Edwin Lutyens, or Crate & Barrel (specially reupholstered, of course). While clearly modern, the open spaces have clear historical references. The results are stunning, comfortable, and inviting. Romualdez is regarded as a charming, polished man who takes a calm and thoughtful approach to his work.

Romualdez, the son of a Filipino diplomat, was born in Manila and raised to become a banker. After graduating from Yale and Columbia (M.Arch), he worked for the renowned Thierry Despont, then for Robert Stern for five years before founding his own practice in 1993. One of his first projects was the quick transformation of a bleak ranch house in eastern LI into a dream getaway, which was picked up by all the shelter mags and launched his career. There is a staff of twelve that works mainly on very high-end residential projects. The firm recently added an interior design arm to fully integrate the look, and they are said to be particularly adept at enhancing clients' art collections with an appropriate setting.

Clients have included Matt and Annette Lauder, Marina Rust, Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, fantasy jeweler James de Givenchy, and the NYT's architecture critic, Paul Goldberger. All this expertise comes at an equally lofty cost, but is said to be well worth it. HB Top Designers, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. Elle Decor A-list, 2011.
