FR Review:
With balanced composure and extraordinary architectural detailing, Darcy Bonner has distinguished himself among a sea of eclectic transitionalists. He favors the grace and background proportions of the 19th century with the furnishings, elegance and inventive spirit of the Moderne era. Clients laud Bonner for his ability to transform a new space into a home that appears to have existed for generations and also for his stylistic strength with furnishings of various provenance.

Bonner began his career in architecture and design with Scott Himmel in 1979, after receiving a master's in architecture from the University of Chicago. Bonner set up his own firm in 1994, retaining the Mattaliano Furniture business. Bonner takes on about seven large projects a year, generally for the more established of Chicago and beyond. Landmark Gold Coast and suburban residences in the 10,000-square-foot range are typical. Patrons report that Bonner's communication skills are strong, and that he is always available to them. The staff of ten is also reportedly very helpful and responsive, with project managers running the day-to-day.

While using the finest resources in Chicago, Bonner also reaches out to a creative array of alternative craftsmen to help keep costs in check. The firm charges a standard architectural rate for new construction, hourly for interior design (high to lower, depending upon seniority) and a slightly lower than standard markup on product. A typical living room is in the $150,000 range with significant latitude, between $100,000 and $500,000. Bonner is highly recommended among friends and relatives.

Representative Client Comments:
"I don't know how they do it. The simplest of lines look gracious under Darcy's direction." "While they love buying original Jean-Michel Frank, these are practical people who also scoop up similar pieces from the period." "Darcy is an all-around great guy as well as an exceptional professional." "His designs are simultaneously comfortable, classic and progressive—who could ask for anything more?"
