FR Review:
There are few furniture or fine art restoration challenges that Bernacki & Associates cannot address. The firm's principal, Stan Bernacki, established the company in 1988, and we hear his staff of nine experienced craftsmen offers a wide range of expertise, including a few hard-to-find talents such as hand carving. Custom furniture work and a close affiliation with a premier upholstery business, Oakley Interiors (see review), make this a true full-service company.
The firm's furniture conservation department is headed by a master gilder and conservator, and its services include finish conservation (French and English polish and lacquer), structural repairs (including veneer, inlay, chinoiserie and boulle work), gilding (oil and water gilding on various surfaces and objects), tooling and leather work. The painting conservation department offers icon conservation; painting restoration services for canvas, panels and walls; repair of cracked, peeling and damaged surfaces; and structural repair, such as tear-patching and restretching, along with cleaning and touch-up services. Both departments offer complete assessment and documentation services, including insurance claims.
Clients concur that the firm's customer service skills are exemplary and mention its constant and up-front communication as exceptional. There are never any surprises, we're told. We also hear that turn-around time is "amazing"and that quality and craftsmanship are superb. The firm works with private clients and the trade and willingly takes on large and small projects.
Representative Client Comments:
"If we have a problem that we can't figure out, they have the solution and the ability to put something together extraordinarily well.""They're magicians.""They are an old-world operation and can do practically anything I ask of them.""There is constant communication—if there is ever an issue, they are on the phone with a report and a handful of solutions.""They are expensive, but right in the ballpark for the level of quality they offer."
