With an updated take on traditional, the designers of Carol Wolk Interiors incorporate lean forms, modern materials and classic textiles. Ethnic or regional touches often accent the contemporary lines, adding depth and color. The firm's spaces are developed with clients' interests and lifestyles as a basis, with detailed accessories often highlighting the clients' influences and offering warmth and comfort.
The firm was established 27 years ago by the late Carol Wolk. Anne Wolk Stolar, her daughter, carries on the tradition. She joined the firm seven years ago and is now the company's principal designer. With two experienced additional designers, Marilyn Wittenberg and Myla Frohman Goldstick, the firm handles about fifteen active projects a year. There is a strong mix in the client base: younger and older, suburban and city and new homes and renovations. The designers are found to be reliable and available, often shopping with customers for major pieces.
A non-reimbursable design fee is charged along with quite low hourly rates and a standard product markup. The firm is known for developing good working budgets, and typically clients spend from $75,000 to $125,000 for a living room. Clients are encouraged to intermix antiques with repro for richness, texture and patina.
