FR Review:
Crafting solid, well-respected designs for a very traditional following, Christopher Teasley envisions rooms of restraint, balance and polish. Working primarily in the Montecito/Santa Barbara area (generally with a more relaxed look), references say Teasley takes designs one step beyond, reaching unexpected sophistication. His insightful and accommodating nature is also mentioned consistently by clients, who love the fact that his homes do not look "decorator done."
Raised in Los Angeles and schooled in Santa Barbara, Teasley apprenticed in design in San Francisco after college. Moving back to Santa Barbara in 1979, Teasley worked with Richard Byers Interiors before starting his own firm in 1983. With a staff of four, his office is said to work "like a tight-fitting glove." About three blockbuster projects are run at a time with smaller reruns for many. Clearly entrenched in the regional market, Teasley has over 30 repeat clients and has decorated three major country clubs: Valley Club, Birnam Wood and La Cumbre.
The firm works on the New York retail basis, which is 40 percent below retail for new products and less on antiques. Hourlies are charged for architectural consulting, but there is no design fee. Living rooms tend to be in the moderate price range, for which the client's existing goods can be retrofitted. References are very pleased with Teasley's budgeted mix of period vernacular and originals, and they greatly appreciate his flexibility in all matters.
