FR Review:
Lauded by an impeccable roster of decorator and auction house clients, this small shop is known in the industry for museum quality work, old-world craftsmanship, and a friendly style of customer service. A family owned and operated business, current president Debbie Phelps carries on the tradition passed down by her father Robert Burger, himself a nineteen year veteran of the industry before he took over the shop in 1986 (it was founded in 1966 as a partnership between Burger and Andre Stoyka). Indeed, the shop still employs several techniques that are now widely used in trade that all originated out of Burger's shop. Though Robert Burger is especially recommended for things like veneer work and French polish, throughout the course of their history they've "seen it all" and have a proven track record of making fire and water damage disappear; many clients say they come to Robert Burger when they've given up hope on a piece. The range of knowledge possessed by the craftsmen on staff is impressive: the firm has tackled everything from Boulle pieces to intricate 22k gold leafing.

The shop usually works on a combination of individual pieces as well as full installs for decorator clients. Much of their work is on significant antiques, 150 years or older, though they will of course work on more modern pieces if need be. Upholstery work is done by trusted outside contractors. Though prices are not low, for a piece of great value (either monetary or sentimental), sources say the shop is the only place to turn.

Representative Client Comments:
"Debbie is a master at touchups." "I've brought in absolutely devastated pieces and walked out with beautiful furniture." "Friendly, old-fashioned people who do things the right way." "Over the course of the past ten years, Debbie has restored several of my pieces, including a a 19th Century Biedermeier armoire."

Project Description & Comments:
Debbie's group is so meticulous! They restored several Louis 16 side chairs and restored all of my early American dining chairs with new cane backing. She even completely restored the gilding and hand-painted decor on an antique table. Other furniture restoration businesses could not do the fine workmanship and artistry that Robert Burger's group can. They are amazing!! No damage or wear to my antiques is ever too challenging for them. They have even come to my home to clean and restore on site at times when cleaning and restoration was minimal.
