Oliver Garrett believes in "the three p's"—practicality, professionalism and personality. From a 1910 cottage renovation with a modern twist to high-concept new constructions, Garrett offers full-service contracting and interior remodeling to top design professionals. "As thorough as they come," Garrett often links up with architects who are equally obsessed with the little details. Yet ego doesn't drive these projects—clients do.
Oliver Garrett graduated from UCLA in 1977 with an arts degree. He worked for his brother's contracting company while establishing relationships with young design talents coming out of SCI-Arc in the early 1980s who would later form the nucleus of his professional circle. Now commanding his own firm, he oversees a small crew with the help of right-hand man Hills Sutton, another former "art school brat." The firm takes on only two jobs at once, so either Garrett or Sutton directs each gig full-time.
We're told quality control starts early on with this firm. Garrett likes to swing into a project's saddle as the first gun to wrangle in budget. We hear for every task the firm shows its clients options, and works hard to fine-tune the product throughout. Project budgets run from $250,000 to $3.5 million. Work takes place mainly in Hollywood Hills, West LA, Venice and Malibu for clients who don't flinch at high-end prices.
