Superbly rendered traditional architecture and landscape design

FR Review:
Principals Brian Tichenor and Raun Thorp bring a unique personal spirit to their stylish, historically rooted designs. While most architects in LA say they integrate the indoors with the out, this is one of the only firms that have principals formally trained in both architecture and landscape design. Any number of architectural canvases may be rendered, from Spanish Revival to neo-Portuguese, Provençal to American traditional, all with "incredible ambiance." Thorp's noted sensitivity to interiors makes them a particular favorite of some of the best interior designers in LA. In addition, Tichenor's historically accurate landscape designs—characterized by lush gardens, a palette rich in texture, and carefully orchestrated color in passageways—have found many devotees.
Clients rave that "the process was always fun" with this "extremely articulate" husband and wife team, who we hear bring a budget-conscious attitude to their designs. Both Tichenor and Thorp received master's degrees in architecture from UCLA and worked for Moore Ruble Yudell. They started their own firm in 1990, and now employ a staff of twelve. Both architects are members of the Society of Architectural Historians and each has served on a number of historic preservation or advisory boards in the area.
Though Tichenor & Thorp started with technically pure restoration and remodel efforts on historically and architecturally significant structures in Southern California, the firm now focuses exclusively on ground-up residential architectural design and will do independent landscape design for a home "if the architecture is in place." Residences are usually substantially sized at 6,000 to 18,000 square feet, with square-foot costs and fees tending toward the high end. Clients tell us every cent is worth the collaboration with this highly "creative team."
