FR Review:
Tommy Chambers is known for his reflective twist on the expected, offering a heightened awareness of the view at hand. In his twentieth-century moderne there might be a zen-like pillow. In his polished American farmhouse you may find a fabulous leafy crystal chandelier. In a traditional guest room there could be a Craftsman toolbox nightstand. Clients say he delivers their particular vision, but with the added sparkle of design charm and wit.

Chambers grew up in west Texas, receiving a degree in architecture at Texas A&M. After studying architecture and the arts in Europe for a year and apprenticing with Joan Axelrod for five years, Chambers and a classmate, William Murray, established the successful Chambers and Murray in 1997. Chambers formed his own firm in 2001 and takes on about five major projects at a time with five on staff. Clients have included director/producer Todd Holland, Cindy Costner and Norman and Lyn Lear. Chambers will work collaboratively or on a turnkey basis, aiming to please.

With nothing period-pure, Chambers has an open, creative mind as to the economic possibilities. It is the clear consensus view that he enjoys being cost effective and working a deal for the client. Crate and Barrel is happily used in the guesthouse (but not the living room). There is always a professional working budget early on in the process, with every item accounted for. Delighted clients say these budgets prove to be quite accurate at the end of the day. The firm charges standard product markups (less on the art), a flat design fee for ground-up or hourlies for non-product time. All item bills are shown as the normal course. ASID. NCIDQ.

Representative Client Comments:
"There is a warm feeling of individual inspiration in the work." "Committed 110 percent, punctual, open minded, lovely, flexible, honest, caring and patient." "He knows the economic constraints and does not try to pressure you." "There is always a low/middle/high choice and it is up to you to make the decision." "Tommy's way of interacting with staff and industry contacts shows great character." "If there are any issues he will fix them. He stays awake at night making sure everything is right." "Tommy is very straightforward. Business managers love him." "He does it because he loves it and takes joy in transcending the obvious choices." "Tommy really, really listens and understands your idea of comfort." "There is a lot of art to help express the client's point of view and mix it up." "Every day in every season in every light my home looks magical, thanks to Tommy."

Project Description & Comments:
Tommy Chambers has a knack for combining his incredible taste with the style you want to live in. Our home means a great deal to us and Tommy’s designs are beautiful and livable. He is so upbeat and positive. He is truly a pleasure to work with. Tommy listens to our wishes, never forcing his opinion on us but remaining firm when he feels we’re going in a direction we’re going to regret. It is really all about trust. He has been faced with some challenging situations in our house and he is undaunted by them. In fact he comes up with solutions that turn detriments into assets. His resources run from the high end to the most practical and functional and he makes the process as enjoyable as the result. My favorite days are Tommy days because, as my husband says, “Tommy’s always right.”

Project Description & Comments:
My wife and I hired Tommy Chambers Interiors later in the process than one would like to when undergoing a renovation the size of ours. Tommy was highly recommended to us by our contractor team, yet I was intimidated by the possibility of an opinionated (snobby) designer who would press his tastes on us. We finally acquiesced and met him and, wow, nothing could have been further from the truth! Tommy is one of the most warm-hearted human beings I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Without question, he understood our collaborative approach, that our interest was a house my wife and I felt we put our stamp on, that wore our personalities, and wasn’t simply a showcase of someone else’s style. To that end, Tommy was egoless, solely committed to interpreting our desires; he brought his diverse aesthetic sense to bear, sculpted our various ideas into a cohesive vision, and presented a wealth of gorgeous options to select from. He and his team, (the indefatigable Steve with him in the field and the always organized Harper in the office) dove into our project, got up to speed, and integrated seamlessly with our architect and contractor. We had frequent discussions about textures, materials, shapes, and the interplay of space. With regard to our eclectic interests, Tommy delivered high-end and inexpensive with equal style and success. He found elements we love but didn’t know to think about, whether it be a large object that sets a tone or a small trinket that accents it. He has relationships with a wealth of expert craftsman capable of customizing anything, from gorgeous iron light fixtures to intricately carved woodwork to custom floor tile. The result was a home which, inside and out, embodied our personal view of comfort and style, and a relationship with a Tommy that lasts to this day.

Project Description & Comments:
I've been working with Tommy Chambers since 1999. I hired him for a home I was building and we have worked together on 7 projects to date. Tommy is an incredible listener. He wants to know what I, as the client want. His ability to work side-by-side with the architect, contractor and other sub-contractors is extraordinary. This is a very unusual trait that he possesses, as many designers aren't able to glide back-and-forth between all the different personalities that are found on a job site. I've also loved the way Tommy can flow between very high-end design and mix it with more reasonably priced items. He's astounded me in this way. I was not accustomed to this concept prior to working with Tommy. Additionally, Tommy's team is second-to-none. His support team have worked with him for 9+ years and truly understand the business. They are professional, efficient, and service-oriented. They reflect the same attitude as Tommy. I can't say enough about how much I absolutely love working with Tommy and his team. They really know how to make your house your home!!
