FR Review:
Respectful of old-world traditions, Diane Peters creates warm, inviting interiors filled with well-worn Aubussons, soft-hued chintzes and layers of pleated and trimmed curtains. Mahogany antique case goods topped with personal treasures usually add to the flow balancing classical and practical millwork. Depending on the client's preferences, this classically traditional framework can be more detailed or toned down. Peters is applauded by clients for her discretion and interest in fulfilling individual dreams.
Passionate and focused in all that she does, Peters grew up in New York City and trained to be a ballerina. The designer always gravitated towards the arts, doing ad styling for Helena Rubinstein and then photo editing for Newsweek, after graduating McGill in European literature and art history. Moving to London, Peters took courses at the V&A, and thus began a lifelong affair with the decorative arts. Settling in Connecticut and decorating her own home, friends implored her to do theirs beginning in 1987.
A one-woman operation, Peters takes joy in working intimately with the client. About five projects are ongoing with a Low hourly fee and Low markups. Projects are often done in a phased evolution, developing long-term relationships with the client. A devoted mother herself, Peters considers family living the highest priority. Meeting a range of budgets, the designer is said to go to The Barn for fabrics as readily as Bennison. But supporters assure us "it will always look elegant."
