FR Review:
Established over 50 years ago, Custom Decorator was first based in New York City and then moved to New Jersey. Walter Kunzel learned the trade from his uncle, who trained in Europe. Kunzel's son has now been in the family business for thirty years and his daughter for fifteen. Mostly doing window treatments and associated soft goods, some reupholstery is also done. Anything can be created from the most exquisite draperies with fine details to the simple.
Seven people work out of a 4,000-square-foot workroom creating all hand finished goods. Most of the customers are serious New York designers, and other notables in the trade. Several regional decorators are also fans, and the staff visits the Connecticut/Westchester area on a regular basis.
