Established and incorporated in 1990, this family-run business specializes in sanding and finishing wood floors only. Helmed by Kurt Hansen (a third-generation Hansen in the flooring industry) and his uncle, H&K serves only residential clients in Manhattan and parts of the Hamptons, Westchester and Connecticut. The firm works with decorators, contractors and directly with homeowners. Pricing is usually per square foot, but for smaller projects H&K will charge by the job. Sources report that H&K’s work is excellent–some say the best in the city–but note that it comes with a certain amount of artistic attitude and prices in the expensive range.
