FR Review:
John Curry has been doing woodwork all his life so it's no wonder that he started his own firm along with partner Clinton Howell in 1991. The duo now takes great care in restoring 18th-century English furniture with the belief that it's "some of the only furniture made well enough that's worth repairing." The company also does a fair amount of French polishing, veneer work and gilding. Sources tell us Curry & Hovis generally works with clients "who know their stuff."
A typical project entails restoring of five to ten pieces. While the firm is "happily busy," Curry & Hovis takes on projects directly from homeowners in addition to designers and dealers. However, be prepared to wait--the average lead time is about eight weeks. The company works across southern Connecticut, Westchester County and New York City. The partners work either in clients' homes or in the workshop, depending on the number and the condition of the pieces.
