FR Review:
From what we’ve heard from clients and designers, the second-generation custom furniture fabricator and designer Marco Laitamaki is second to none. Laitamaki’s father learned the industry in his homeland of Finland, immigrated in TK, and the father-son duo opened business in West Palm Beach in 1989, bringing Nordic craftsmanship to sunnier climes.

Custom Furniture by Laitamaki uses two separate warehouses for the production of its pieces--one for framing and the other for finish work (spring work, muslin, sewing and upholstery)--in order to keep detritus and sawdust away from the finished product. Though the company handles some reupholstery, wall upholstery and headboard work, roughly 75 percent of the company’s output is new or custom. The firm's beautiful small showroom exhibits approximately 40 pieces at a time – more than 25 chairs and a number of sofas – including a number of Marco Laitamaki’s original designs.

Laitmaki and his team of seven employees, including his 62-year-old father and his sister Yana, can handle just about any size job. One 50,000 square foot home took the better part of a year for the firm to furnish. A more typical job would be for a 15,000 square foot home – six sofas and between six and eight chairs – with a turnaround time of roughly two to three months. Clients assert that Laitamaki’s “real strength is punctuality,” noting the company’s willingness to put in the extra effort to get things done on a tight timetable, a quality “difficult to find in this market.” Such workmanship and dedication does not come cheap, but sources rate the production value, detail and craftsmanship as well worth the price.
