FR Review:
Armed with a decade of experience, a friendly-yet-professional manner, and a fitting surname, Wayne Kompare appraises the cellars of Florida. Originally an IBM lifer, Kompare retired in 1995 and began taking appraisal courses the same year. By 1997 he was focusing his efforts on a longtime interest in wine (he began his own collection in 1983) and serving as a specialist for the prestigious appraisal firm O’Toole-Ewald. Though Kompare operates out of Sarasota, as the only appraiser in Florida certified by the Appraisers Association of America to value wine, his services are in demand by clients statewide. Indeed, he spends much time in Palm Beach and Miami, working for both institutional and private clients, taking on jobs from as small as a few bottles all the way up to a 5,000-bottle case for the state government. A wide range of services includes appraisal for insurance purposes, equitable distribution, donation, and market value, though Kompare doesn’t take on authentication work in counterfeit cases. References say his fee, charged by the hour, is a bargain for the level of expertise offered, and they praise his calm, personable style, saying that he’s able to bring complicated issues of vintage and provenance down to the level of the layman. They also say, only half-jokingly, that he’s able to recommend a good wine to go with dinner.
Representative Client Comments:
"A rare specialty, but Wayne takes it on wholeheartedly. His expertise is invaluable." "Friendly, professional, and knowledgeable." "You might be surprised at how much your cellar is worth." "He does this kind of work because he loves it, and it shows."
