Summary of Comments:
Client loyalty is the hallmark of Dan Levine and his tutoring company. Many families have been with Levine for over a decade starting with elementary school homework help going right through the sophisticated needs of high school, onto SATs. Some private school, Upper East Side families have hired the company to be there from Monday to Thursday, every night for an hour and a half, knowing that one of their three children will want the assistance. Others are more project based, bringing in a tutor for that overwhelming 20-page research paper. Regardless of the approach, all clients agree that Dan is one of the most helpful people to know in New York.
The company's excellent service is a result of many important factors. First of all, Dan usually interviews 20+ potential tutors before he hires one. They do not all have the Ivy League pedigrees of some of the other tutoring companies in New York, but these young people love to teach, try to make it fun, and form long-lasting relationships with their students. Also, the tutors are flexible in their approach, and are usually expert in multiple subjects. Thus, if your scheduled tutor does not have the expertise needed for the issue that night, Dan will find the appropriate person very quickly (usually for the next night, as there are 85 tutors on his roster). Also, Dan himself has been the parent contact since 1997 matching the tutors with the students, offering a huge advantage in consistency, capability and caring. Lastly, the value is excellent. Dan considers all of his tutors to be outstanding and, thus, all tutors cost the same amount, a very low $95 per hour.
The Big Apple side of the business takes students from ERB's to SATs to College Advising and the Exclusive Education side focuses on home schooling. Usually the home schooled students are between schools due to travel, business or placement. The majority of the tutors do classroom and other strategic academic coaching (writing skills, math tactics). The company uses public sources for standardized test prep, individualizing the approach for each student. If customer loyalty is the bottom line for a service company, Levine wins the prize.
Client Comments:
"I totally panicked when my 13 year old son was assigned a massive research paper. Instead of fighting that organizational battle, I called in Dan at the high recommendation of friends. My son is now 18 and I am still happily with Dan's team." "I have gratefully used Big Apple for homework help for over a decade. I am not sure why, but when it came time for the SATs I called in a SAT specialist." "When my son wanted to brush up on his Spanish before college, I reached out to Dan who found the most lovely tutor. They watched Spanish movies together and chatted in Spanish. It was perfect." |

Bottom Line:
I recommend Big Apple Tutoring to any Upper East Side family. Simply the best tutors around.
Project Description & Comments:
Our family has used Big Apple Tutoring for the past five academic years. Each of my three children have had their own tutors and the tutors have remained the same throughout the years. The tutors are not only incredible teachers but also the most outgoing, caring, and compassionate people. They have become welcome members of our family. I would not use another tutoring agency in Manhattan.

Bottom Line:
This is a gem of a tutoring company in Manhattan.
Project Description & Comments:
We were new to the whole "tutoring thing" this year. I was referred to Big Apple Tutoring through another parent. I could not be more happy with our tutor. She has helped my eighth grader in ways I did not think possible. Not only were her grades much improved but also her self confidence has gone up tremendously. The owner of Big Apple Tutoring is Dan and he is always available and the most helpful person. Our family looks forward to many more years of service with Big Apple Tutoring.

Bottom Line:
Our kids have flourished -- we highly recommend Big Apple Tutoring.
Project Description & Comments:
We have two children at Horace Mann who needed academic tutoring in various subjects. One of the teachers recommended that we call Dan at Big Apple Tutoring. After an initial consultation with Dan, we arranged for the tutors to meet the kids and begin working with them. We found the tutors to be eminently qualified and genuinely nice people. Dan always accommodated us from a scheduling perspective, and we consider the pricing very reasonable relative to the level of service that the company provides to us. We have used other tutoring companies in the past and found them to be either less than professional or just unresponsive to our needs. Big Apple Tutoring is a breath of fresh air. Our kids have flourished and look forward to each session with the tutors. We are very pleased with the service and highly recommend Big Apple Tutoring.

Two tutors who proved to be exactly what my kids needed! I will use them again!!
Project Description & Comments:
I hired Big Apple Tutoring for my daughter for SAT prep. Dan (the owner and supervisor) sent us two amazing tutors. One for SAT Math section, and the other for SAT English (Verbal and Writing sections). Both were outstanding and my daughter scored in the top 10 %. We continued with the SAT Math tutor to help our younger son with Algebra. Another success! The tutors at BAT are top notch. We had a wonderful experience working with BAT and would use them again if needed. A very positive experience all around.

Bottom Line:
Could not be happier with our decision. A lifesaver!!!!!!! Special thanks to Big Apple Tutoring.....
Project Description & Comments:
Big Apple Tutoring has been a lifesaver for our family. Having moved from overseas, they guided us through the homeschooling process, took care of the administrative side and helped us tremendously in the application process for private school. We feel that our son is well prepared for next academic year and it is all thanks to BAT tutors. They became almost part of our family and we could not have been happier with them. They are all proactive, innovative, supportive and open minded people that tailored their teaching style to suit our son. He absolutely thrived. It was great having tutors for all the subjects, including 2 languages, music and even P.E! The fact that they provided tutors in different states was very helpful as it allowed us to travel frequently. All in all, homeschooling experience with BAT was a dream and I cannot imagine a better experience. I recommend them to everyone!

Bottom Line:
A pleasure to work with, excellent tutors, great service and great results. I would definitely recommend Big Apple Tutoring.
Project Description & Comments:
We used a private tutor from Big Apple tutoring about 5 years ago for a 'quick fix' in Chemistry and Calculus. The owner, Dan, took personal care to get us a great match for our son, and the results were very impressive- so much so that we didn't need the tutor any more! Fast forward to this past year, and our 7th grader needed a general tutor to assist with study and organizational skills....once again, we utilized Big Apple and Dan got us a another great match. We have requested this tutor again for the fall. We appreciated this company's personal attention with scheduling- the tutors were flexible and coming to our home made it so easy. Dan, the owner/coordinator was always available and approachable- quite refreshing these days!
