Company Philosophy
2Michaels is a New York City based Interior Design firm founded by sisters Jayne and Joan Michaels. The children of an aerospace engineer and a painter; they inherited their mother's artistic spirit and their father's obsession for detail. Their passion for modern architecture and design started in Palm Springs, California and developed in Milan, Italy, where they were exposed to such mid-century geniuses as Franco Albini and Gio Ponti. Their design sensibility continued to evolve at Parson's School of Design and F.I.T where they earned degrees in Interior Design.

Established in 2001, 2Michaels has attracted and satisfied both artistic and business-minded clients, ranging from downtown playwrights to a midtown law firms. They are inspired by working with their clients and treat the process as one of collaboration, not dictation. In 2006, 2Michaels teamed with prominent 20th century gallerist/curator Larry Weinberg to create 4PM, a mid-century antique gallery at Center44.

2Michaels charges a standard design fee for furnishings, fixtures and improvements and an hourly fee for custom work and architectural drawings. 2Michaels, as a matter of policy, always returns to the client any discount or net price available.

Areas of Expertise / Recent Projects
-The renovation of a Tribeca loft for a playwright and a financier. The 3,500 s.f. loft is lined with floor to ceiling bookshelves with a craftsman attention to warm natural woods and hand woven fabrics. The custom designed kitchen features butternut wood cabinets and stone countertops.

-A gut renovation of a Sutton Place apartment. The spacious two bedroom apartment has fire place, a large kitchen and French windows which open on to a front facing terrace. We are carefully preserving the apartment’s pre-war details with 21st century technology.

-An ocean front cottage in Martha’s Vineyard. Interiors were modernized, using rare, mid-century furnishings reflecting the owner’s love for that period.
