Company Philosophy
Phillip James Dodd specializes in creating classical and traditional style homes that are timeless, elegant, and above all comfortable. With twenty-years of experience in high-quality design, and as the author of two best-selling books on residential architecture, Phillip works closely with each client to ensure that their tastes, budget, and schedule are met. With an unrivaled passion, level of commitment, and English sense of humor, he makes the experience of building a home fun and effortless.

Now with offices in Greenwich and Palm Beach, Phillip believes that design is a collaborative process. His experienced and talented design team has worked together for years and brings a separate, yet often overlapping, skill set to each project. Collectively they bring their clients vision to life – and do so with a level of care and attention that is unique among architects and designers. The firm offers a hands-on approach in which Phillip, as the principal designer, is involved in every key decision and detail – providing the care and responsiveness that his clients expect. Phillip is well known for fostering collaborative experiences with landscape and interior designers to create refined homes of exceptional beauty and quality.

Phillip enjoys getting to personally know his clients and designing residences that often remain in families for generations. Designing a home is one of the most exciting, intimate and personal experiences any individual can undertake, and as a designer, he recognizes the tremendous responsibility, trust and faith that his clients place in him and his team. The firm has worked hard to differentiate themselves from other architects and designers. Regardless of what others might promise, you can be assured that Phillip and his team will always be forthright and only make promises he can absolutely deliver on. This inclusive design philosophy, combined with a unique understanding of a variety of architectural traditions and contexts, means that Phillip’s designs are not only an architectural showpiece, but also filled with the warmth that families expect when they move in. No matter the location, or the size of the project, all share the hallmark of a truly well-crafted bespoke design.

Areas of Expertise / Recent Projects
Phillip is a Fellow Emeritus at The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art based in New York. He has taught classical design at the Institute, as well as at Notre Dame, and the Interiors Departments at New York’s Parson’s School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology. He has lectured extensively throughout the United States on the subject of classical architecture, including at the Architectural Digest Design Show in New York, and at the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. After training with some of the most recognized residential architectural firms in America, Phillip started his own design firm Phillip James Dodd: Bespoke Residential Design LLC. Already with a reputation as one of the foremost experts on classical architecture and interiors, Phillip is now fast becoming one of the most sought-after young residential designers practicing today. Ranging from a 800 square foot pied-a-terre to a 20,000 square foot waterfront estate, his designs can found in Greenwich, Manhattan and Palm Beach – the latter where he specializes in designing Anglo-Caribbean and Spanish-Mediterranean style retreats for clients based in the Manhattan, Westchester and Fairfield County areas. Phillip is also a highly acclaimed author, with two bestselling books. Published in 2013, The Art of Classical Details: Theory Design and Craftsmanship takes a close-up look at some of the finest examples of contemporary classical architecture, with essays and projects from leading classicists. His much anticipated follow-up, An Ideal Collaboration: The Art of Classical Details II was published in 2015. He is the Editor-At-Large for new series on classical and traditional architecture, to be released by Images Published Group. The first volume in this series titled The Classical American House is due to be released in 2017. Currently, Phillip is working with photographer Jonathan Wallen on a lavish new volume on The Beaux-Arts Architecture of New York City (due to be released in 2018), which features a foreword by Julian Fellowes – the creator of Downton Abbey. Phillip is also the architectural editor at Venu magazine, where he again writes on the subject of Beaux-Arts Landmarks in New York City, and is consulting architect of WTNH - News Chanel 8 in Connecticut.
