Company Philosophy
Philip Gorrivan established his New York-based firm, Philip Gorrivan Design, in 2001, after spending several years in the business world. Whether he's designing a classic Park Avenue apartment, a rambling country house, a downtown loft or a boutique hotel, Philip tailors each project with his clients needs in mind, creating rooms that feel at once both classic and layered as well as tailored and modern. Philip is known for his clever sense of color and a refined eye for objects, art and furnishings. The firm has received much press including House and Garden's "Tastemaker" distinction in 2007, House Beautiful's "Americas Top 25 New Designers" and their "Top 100 Designers" and finally, New York Spaces "Top 50 Designers".

Philip and his design team collaborate extensively to design an interior space that reflects their client's personal tastes and vision. Through their broad trade resources and workrooms, they tailor their work to the architecture and use of a space, creating comfortable and exciting homes for families; sophisticated spaces for collectors and from "bachelor pads" to more "grown up" spaces for a wide range of clientele. The philosophy of the firm is based on a high level of client service and the understanding that lifestyle drives design, not the reverse.

Areas of Expertise / Recent Projects
Philip Gorrivan Design has completed projects ranging from New York City apartments, houses in Connecticut, New Jersey and Long Island, as well as Canada and further a field. Commercial/hospitality projects span from Nantucket to Palm Beach. Currently the firm is working on several New York City apartments and houses in Shelter Island as well as the north shore of Long Island. They have been featured in Designer show houses in Montauk and the Hamptons and New York City as well as New Jersey and Connecticut.

Recent projects include a seven room family apartment in the Carnegie Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, filled with glamour, comfort and the unexpected. One is first greeted by an octagonal, black lacquered gallery and marble slab floors that evoke the 1930’s glamour of the Carlyle Hotel. The living areas are a comfortable respite from the city, very tailored yet carefully layered with art and objects, evoking a 20th century continental perspective. The children’s bedrooms are both sophisticated and playful and designed to endure time.

Another project includes a townhouse on the upper east side, where the dining room walls are lacquered in a citrus orange, the chairs in a luxurious cut velvet and a dramatic murano glass chandelier hovers above. The library has an “Orientalist” feel, with rich velvet paisleys, velvet upholstered walls and red faux crocodile wallcovering on the ceiling.

In Litchfield County CT, the team is currently decorating an 18th century farmhouse for a weekend family. The interior is filed with clean, crisp and tailored details including linens in pale blues and grays, woven fabrics in earth tones creating an interior that could easily be in the Belgian countryside.
