FR Review:
This "boutique operation" achieves what we hear is an elevated level of service as a result of principal William Green's full-tilt management style. Sources say Green is adept at creating classically-oriented designs that are timeless and have a distinct respect for proportion and scale. He also approaches the actual drawing in a classic way, with everything being done by hand, right down to the tiniest molding or hardware detail. The details, especially the moldings, are unusually thoughtful and precise. However the architect is also known to design in a modern context with equal skill. He has continued to follow his vision of building homes that project "a sense of place" in the community, as well as creating designs that are sensitive to budgetary constraints without compromising the quality.

Green heads a team of four and projects are typically gut renovations, split between residential and commercial clients. However, the firm continues to take on more and more new-home construction outside the city, in places like Greenwich, Bedford, Westport, and the Hamptons--and as far away as Japan and France. The firm takes on approximately fifteen residential projects each year of varying scopes. Green is known to control all aspects of a project, be it design of architecture, landscape, interiors, or furniture, and we hear he pursues his vision through to the end.

Green received his B.F.A. from Tufts and a M.Arch. from University of Colorado. Before starting the firm in 1986, Green worked with design giants Skidmore Owings & Merrill and Davis, Brody. He is described as a gentle, dedicated man, who tries to bring a serious artistic component to every project. The aptly-named Green is also known to be committed to ecological issues. The firm has also served the commercial/institutional market including Fendi, Bellevue Hospital, and the Guggenheim and Louvre Museums. The firm charges a standard fee based on hourly or a percentage of construction costs. It is said that they are consistently on time and on budget.
