FR Review:
Teton Valley Ranch Camp is a unique Western summer experience for boys and girls ages ten to sixteen. On a ranch set against the Abasaroka mountains in Dubois, Wyoming, campers participate in activities such as riding, fishing, riflery, archery, craft shop, lapidary and out-of-camp backpacking and pack trips. Campers don’t need any riding or hiking experience to attend TVRC, all that’s required is a good attitude and a willingness to try something new.

Teton Valley Ranch Camp was founded in 1939 on the dream of a place where children could learn about the West and themselves through a program based on ranching heritage, land stewardship and respect for self and others. TVRC continues in that vein today. The Yearlings (the youngest group of campers – entering 6th grade) and Rough Riders are first year campers and both programs are designed to be an introduction to all the activities TVRC has to offer, including a pack trip and backpacking trip. Top Hand year, when campers are in their second or third summer at camp, they still experience all of camp’s activities but specialize in riding, hiking or fishing to build their knowledge and skill set in a particular area. Wrangler year, campers take on more responsibility and spend more time at the barn, riding and helping the barn staff wrangle in the ranch’s 60 horses each morning. Trailblazer year is the eldest adventure group at TVRC and is for fourth or fifth year campers. Trailblazers focus on out-of-camp trips, a nine-day backpack and a seven-day pack trip. TVRC also offers two unique 20-day Teton Crest Trips for high-school aged kids who want to climb the entire Teton range – including a one-in-a-life-time experience, climbing the Grand.

Sunday is a favorite day at TVRC as weekly camp rodeos take place. After honing their skills during ‘gymkhana’ that week, campers can sign up for barrel racing, pole-bending, the potato race, and musical chairs (all on horseback!) and compete for the title of Rodeo King or Queen. A lively selection of country music and entertaining commentary on the loudspeaker from director Tom Holland ensures everyone has a good time. Even if campers don’t choose to participate in the Rodeo every week, the entire camp comes out to sit in the stands, drink lemonade and support their friends. Overall, Teton Valley Ranch Camp is an unparalleled summer experience for a child who loves adventure and the outdoors.
