FR Review:
Great Performances opened its doors in 1979, and was originally a waitress staffing service for women artists wanting to supplement their income in the catering sector. Today, Great Performances is one of New York City's largest full-service catering companies, with a full-time staff of more than 150 and hundreds of service staff. While size can often be a detriment to innovation, founder and CEO Liz Neumark strives to keep things "fresh" (both literally and figuratively), and has been ahead of the curve on several catering trends--venue sourcing and organic/sustainable foods, to name a few. The company's organic farm, Katchkie Farm, went into operation in 2006 and allows Great Performances to serve organic food within 24 to 36 hours of harvest. At the same time, Great Performances is the exclusive caterer for the Plaza Hotel, BAM and five other popular New York City institutions.
Although Great Performances is certainly adept at handling smaller gatherings, its true talents appear to lie in larger events, like fundraisers, galas and corporate events. Recent events include the City Parks Foundation Gala at Gracie Mansion, featuring entrées like porcini and pumpkin seed crusted filet of beef and purple cauliflower ragout. As far as larger events go, Great Performances is also reasonably priced: cocktail receptions are typically $85 per person, with seated dinners coming in at about $190 per person (including alcohol and service). The minimum food order for any events is $1,200.
Representative Client Comments:
"I would absolutely use Great Performances to cater another event." "We decided to do do 'family style' serving and were really happy with the end result." "The setup time did take a bit longer than I expected." "A friend recommended Great Performances to me and I would definitely recommend them to others." "I worked directly with Linda Abbey, who was a joy." "Artful presentation."
