FR Review:
What could you, the Queen, and the Prince of Wales have in common? Exceptional stationery, if you buy from one of their favorite designers, The Wren Press. There is simply no finer quality than Wren. The paper enunciates the language of heft and elegance, with unique artisan fonts and designs, and hand-fed printing for exactness. The designs are as exquisite as they are timeless, thus making them classics and retro-chic all at the same time. Yes, the pricing is not for the faint of heart, but the results clearly show the investment in time and thought.

Wren is best known for its party invitations, wedding invitations and personal correspondence stationery. They work with the finest typographers and calligraphers to create works of art that are then generally engraved. Need a stunning, lifelike depiction of your country house, yacht or dog on your calling cards or thank you notes? Wren should be your first call. Holiday cards are also becoming a mainstay. What sets Wren apart from most stationers is its integrated, in-house group of craftsmen, who provide a full range of consistent skills, including calligraphy, hand gilding and proprietary colored-edging. That way nothing is left to chance in quality or timing.

This privately-owned firm began in London in 1980, and has since opened shop in Dublin, New York and Hong Kong. All manufacturing is still meticulously done at the company's London factory. Pret-a-porter correspondence cards can be procured through the company's website, but the more detailed and personal pieces are created in collaboration with a salesperson. Wren's main contact in the United States is Ann Patron, who orchestrated the opening of the New York office in 1999. Ann's love of stationery is palpable, and her impressive track record includes leadership positions at both Smythson and Dempsey & Carroll.

Wren's prices are high tier, given its bespoke business model and emphasis on hand engraving. Hand-engraved wedding invitations start at $1,000 (for a set of 100), with basic monogrammed correspondence stationery starting at $425 (for 100). Nevertheless, prices are commensurate with the level of skill and craftsmanship delivered, making Wren an excellent choice when only the finest quality will do, especially when commemorating special events.
