FR Review:
French-American Reweaving has been reversing the havoc wreaked wool clothing wrought by moths, cigarettes and pets since 1930. Regardless of how a hole or rip came to be, these specialists harvest material from the garment itself and replicate the pattern by hand. If the damage is extensive, they will track down an identical pattern and "patch it back in." The "nearly undetectable result" gives garments a new lease on life, but comes at a price: French-American is one of the few remaining practitioners of this high-skill trade and only high-end or sentimental garments typically warrant the cost of reweaving.

Current owner Ron Moore started working at the shop over 40 years ago, making afternoon deliveries as a high school student. Moore stayed on to learn the trade, and has been there ever since. He oversees two long-time handworkers and deals directly with clients, who we hear appreciate Moore's "responsiveness" and "frankness when it comes to what's salvageable." Mending a small sweater hole starts at $45; suits at $95. Most repairs taken on by the shop are for wool or cashmere, as cotton and silk don't lend themselves well to reweaving. Non-urgent jobs are typically turned around in two weeks.

Representative Client Comments:
"I've been sending things here for over 20 years--their work is simply exquisite." "Ron knows his stuff." "If you take garments elsewhere for reweaving, chances are they'll be botched or simply forwarded on to French-American--at a markup for you." "I've recommended them to countless friends--even one in Ohio, who sends her garments in the mail." "Ron was terrific about making it easy to mail my jacket in, and even got back to us in the week between Christmas and the New Year."
