FR Review:
Mood Fabric is your "one-stop shop" for fabric, trimming and accessories for just about any project, so long as you're not time-strapped. This garment district mainstay is spread over three "sprawling floors" and teeming with FIT students, designers, decorators and everyday folks "on the hunt for" the perfect fabric. Wools and tweeds on the top floor, cottons and silks are entrance level, and upholstery and trimming are below. Mood does an altogether good job of staffing, with knowledgeable salespeople "peppered throughout," but customers shouldn't expect them to hover--getting a question answered or swatch cut will usually require "flagging a salesperson down."

Mood can feel "chaotic" at times, a trait amplified by its ongoing feature on the popular TV show "Project Runway." It is not the best place to go when "in a hurry," as getting in and out requires waiting for the manned elevator, checking any large bags and enduring the long checkout line. It is also not advisable to go without an inkling of what you are looking for, lest you "wander in awe" of the vast selection. For those who know what they're after, though, Mood is "practically guaranteed to have it." Prices usually range from $14-$40 per yard, and customers recommend the more specialized fabrics as a "better value" than the very basics.

Representative Client Comments:
"Mood is a fabric lover's dream come true." "The staff is helpful so long as you know what you're looking for." "There are definitely cheaper fabric stores in the garment district, but none as entertaining or with such a large selection." "Always an interesting mix of characters there." "They usually have a box of rest fabrics downstairs on clearance, which is great for inspiring smaller projects." "The entrance is easy to miss--it's on the second floor and you need a porter to get you there."
