Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Frankie Steinz Costumes is readily equipped with such standards, but can go so much further. Would you like to be a carrot this year? You've got it. Do you and the missus want to go as Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn? Consider it done. Or do you need something for a group, perhaps a fruit salad or the Addams Family? Check to both. You're sure to find just the thing in the ~3,000 piece collection, and if you require something even more original or personalized, Frankie will custom design it for you. Frazzled mothers charged with materializing a complicated or unusual costume should take note that Frankie also rents kids' costumes--the only NYC shop to do so.
Owner Frankie Steinz (yes, that is her real name) is a costume designer extraordinaire and has been creatively dressing NYC since 1990. Her clientele consists of those who take costume parties seriously, as well as film studios and ad agencies in need of something special. There's no charge to come in for an individual appointment and no obligation to purchase anything once there, but custom designs and rentals do require a deposit. The one-on-one interaction with Steinz, the high quality of the costumes and the basic alteration services included make for high-end prices: costume rental is between $150 and $395 (for two days) while custom designs start at $400 and go into the thousands. The good news, though, is that you'll be provided with everything you need (besides footwear), so no running out last minute for wigs, belts or pirate swords.
