FR Review:
Ron Ben-Israel is quite literally a cake architect - in 2007, he and his crew built a 6' tall replica of The Plaza to commemorate the hotel's 100-year anniversary and reopening, the sidewalk of which was partitioned off as cake for guests. The shop continues to service similar big-ticket events, but its core business is wedding cakes, and clients are encouraged to reserve at least two months in advance during wedding season. Customers hail the frosting flowers as "unbelievably lifelike" and confirm that the cake tastes "as amazing as it looks."
Owner and namesake Ron Ben-Israel is said to have "even more character than his cakes." A former ballet dancer and soldier in the Israeli army, Ron eventually apprenticed in France as a chef before heading to NYC and opening shop in 1996. He and his crew are praised for being "absolutely wonderful" and "surprisingly accommodating" from start to finish. The level of service and detail delivered comes at a price: the minimum order is $800 and novelty cakes typically start at $1,500. However, for very special occasions a cake from Ron Ben-Israel is deemed "absolutely worth it."
Representative Client Comments:
"My go-to for special occasion cakes." "Absolutely tastes as good as it looks." "I kept the flowers from our wedding ceremony cake and still have them! They look real." "Ron created an adorable Hello Kitty cake for my little girl's first birthday." "I've recommended them several times."
