FR Review:
Lisa Shaub custom designs hats for all occasions, from a casual wool beret for fall to a dramatic feather and horsehair number for a cocktail party. No appointment is necessary; customers simply wander in to the NoLita shop to browse or to "hatch a new creation" with Lisa herself. Expert dying is a forte here, so should you find yourself in need of a hat to match an indigo blue dress, this is a good bet. Men will also find fedoras and pork pies on offer, but the shop caters primarily to women who are in search of something creative without being "too out there."

Shaub studied millinery at FIT and has been running her own shop since 1998. If not in the store, she's most likely traveling Europe, where she scouts fine materials and trims that aren't readily available in the United States. Clients recommend Shaub as an especially good source when "in need of occasion recommendations," like what hat to wear to the wedding of your husband's boss in France. The design and crafting work is done by Shaub herself, with a lead time of two to four weeks. Prices are considered "very reasonable," starting at $65 for a simple sewn hat and topping off around $350 for something Kentucky Derby-worthy.

Representative Client Comments:
"I would have bought the first hat I saw, but Lisa made me try on several in order to find the best fit, which we eventually did." "A superb value." "Lisa is just so gregarious."
