FR Review:
The Hat Shop has the variety of a department store with all the customization capabilities of a milliner's atelier. The "well-stocked shop" carries hats from more than 30 local milliners (including Lisa Shaub and Tracy Watts) along with their own in-house line, Chapeau Chateau . If a customer sees something covet-worthy, but requires a different size or color, The Hat Shop will happily arrange it--whether the piece was made in house or not. There are styles for nearly every occasion, though classics in straw are particularly abundant.
Owner Linda Pagan, aka "The Hat Lady," opened the West Village shop in 1995. Customers praise Pagan for her "personable assistance" and "vast knowledge of form and fit." Because the selection is so wide-ranging, prices start as low as $50 for a knit hat and reach $1,000+ for jaw-dropping works of art. Most hats on display fall in the $200 to $400 range, however. Enthusiasts recommend this "adorable shop" as a great source for inspiration--especially when you're "not quite certain what you're after." Should you have old or worn hats on your hands, be advised that The Hat Shop also offers a reblocking service to reinvigorate them.
