FR Review:
Thoughtful about function and sensitive to budget, the "young and dynamic" team of Adam Weintraub and Mishi Hosono create modern designs that are "never stark or cold." Said to be honest, hardworking and kind, this husband-wife team use muted colors "that are in between the colors that people think exist." Making use of "interesting, but not necessarily expensive" materials, including concrete panels and other texture-rich elements, the results are sophisticated yet practical. They are said to be "architects first and foremost, but also experts on furniture and textiles."
Weintraub and Hosono are principals of this firm of six, created in 2000. Weintraub holds architecture degrees from Harvard and Penn, while Hosono holds both undergraduate and graduate architecture degrees from Penn. Hosono brings a stellar resume to her practice, having worked and trained with Peter Marino and Tsao & McKown. The firm takes on roughly a dozen projects annually, 60% of which are residential. The vast majority of these deal with apartment renovations, although the firm is said to be "equally capable" of taking on ground-up single-family homes. The firm will consider projects of nearly any size and scope, given that they make a "connection" with the overall program or the client.
Projects may have fairly modest budgets, ranging from $250,000 to $5 million, averaging around $750,000. Approximately 60% of the firm's work takes place in Manhattan, with projects extending throughout the United States and Asia. The firm charges a standard percentage of overall construction costs.
