FR Review:
Frequented by designers and individual homeowners alike, Desiron has a chic take on custom furniture. Their pieces are mid-century influenced, but retain a contemporary–rather than a modern–feel. Clean, simple aesthetics make their furniture usable and easy to mix and match with antiques or statement pieces. Since Desiron’s products do not ascribe to a distinct fashion, their pieces are easy to insert into many different homes. We’re told that because of this, clients always find something that they like. At Desiron, everything is made to order and available in multiple finishes. Their metalwork is a distinctive offering; the most popular materials are gunmetal, stainless steel and copper. All metal pieces have hand-applied finishes that add a luxurious feel to an otherwise utilitarian material. In upholstery, Desiron offers a large selection of anything from patent leather to mohair. The company makes it very easy to request samples on their website, and they are quite prompt in sending them to you.
Clients tell us that they admire Desiron’s consistency in producing very high-end products, and that their timing is “better than the neighboring showrooms on Wooster Street.” An added bonus is the location of their factory. All of Desiron’s products are made in their 30,000-square-foot facility in New Jersey—waiting for overseas delivery is a nonissue. Highly service oriented, we are told that on the rare occasion an error has been made, Desiron is quick to rectify the problem gratis.
The firm was founded in 1997 by Frank Carfaro, who was taught metalworking by his grandfather, an ironsmith who came to America from Italy in 1921. Price points are typical for high-end custom furniture. Living room sofas typically cost around $6,800 and dining room tables cost about $6,000. Prices, of course, vary according to materials. Though you might not want to outfit your entire home in such a neutral style, there’s certainly always something to love in the showroom.
Representative Client Comments:
“Versatile and specific in their ability to create products.” “What I like is that you can completely customize everything.” “Consistent in producing super-high quality products.” “They have the reliability factor.” “When they delivered my copper television cabinet, it was so pretty I wanted to cry.” “Their showroom is a well-oiled machine.” “All of my projects have at least one piece from Desiron.” “The Thompson Dresser is my favorite piece, and I also love the Nolita Chair.” “It is a pleasure to visit their showroom.” “The fact that they’re domestically made means that I don’t have to wait for my pieces to ship from Europe.” “Very hands-on. I appreciate the personal touch. I know everyone’s names there, and they all know mine.” “I noticed a stain in suede upholstery on one of the couches I ordered. They were mortified, and within two weeks they replaced the piece free of charge.”
