“Customers for life” is the goal at CertaPro Painters. Principals Peter Buttenwieser and Mitch Berliner opened their business in 2005, aiming to provide outstanding customer service along with great paint jobs. Berliner takes care of operations, while Buttenwieser deals with customer management. We’re told that one of the best things about CertaPro Painters is that they take the frustration out of finding a painter. When you call, someone is always there to pick up the phone. The entire operation is computerized: All invoices are computer-generated and confirmed over email. Buttenwieser personally calls every customer on the second day on of each job, and the company uses an independent customer feedback service to gauge satisfaction after a project is completed.
The bulk of CertaPro’s business is straightforward interior/exterior painting, though some of their painters can do faux finishes. We hear the firm is committed to working neatly and cleaning up properly, and there’s a two-year warranty on work. Painters are not allowed to smoke on the job, and Buttenwieser and Berliner run background checks on all of their employees.
With 125 painters on staff, CertaPro can take on as many as twenty jobs at once, though they do not put painters on multiple jobs. Roughly 25 percent of the firm’s business is commercial, 45 percent is exterior painting and the remainder is interior. The firm covers Manhattan, the Bronx, Westchester and Southern Connecticut, including Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton and Darien. Prices are competitive and based on a project proposal with a firm number. CertaPro even offers a popular package called “Painter for a Day,” which is one painter for eight hours for $395. If you sign on to work with them, they provide an hour-long consultation with one of the three color consultants on staff. Additionally, they can do cement flooring, wallpaper removal and hanging, drywall and light carpentry.
