FR Review:
Leaning toward traditional and classical designs, Conte & Conte’s landscapes take cues from the architecture of the sites in which they work. Noted for working with existing plant material, principals John Conte and Kimberly Conte often save and transplant what is already present in order to keep an established feeling in their designs. According to John, “one of the best compliments I get is when people tell me, ‘It looks like it has always been here.’’’ We’re told that Conte & Conte designs often use native plants and eld collected stone.

John Conte is a licensed landscape architect in New York and Connecticut, and he is also a licensed arborist. Besides the two principals, the business has five employees: a landscape designer, two design associates, and two administrative professionals. The firm will handle bids and has experience acting as part of a team to negotiate planning/zoning, wetlands and association rules. Though they are not LEED certified yet, they are conscious of conservation and can bring in LEED-certified professionals if necessary. Conte & Conte is experienced in designing outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, gardens, ponds, patios, driveways, swimming pools, fences, tennis courts and maintenance plans. They will also source pots, furniture and outdoor lighting when the job calls for it.

Cost varies according to the project. Conte & Conte is practiced in doing substantial work, and complete an average of fteen to 25 jobs a year. The company charges under three different models in accordance with the size of the job. For larger projects, Conte & Conte charges a percent on construction cost that is on par with other high-end landscape architecture rms. For smaller jobs, they charge either a high hourly or a lump sum fee.
