A transitional style with splashes of color characterizes Barbara Maker Interiors. Maker captures South Florida style with a contemporary slant, juxtaposing neutrals with bold patterns and whimsical touches of modern artwork. Maker began her career in retail working for Ethan Allen in Rochester New York. In 1985, she opened her own design business. After moving to Florida in 2000, Maker began working on the design staff of retail company, Robb & Stucky, and eleven years later, she reopened her interior design business in Boca Raton.
Maker is the sole employee at her firm and usually tackles six projects at once (three large and three smaller.) Half of her work is on condominiums in the 3,000 square foot range and half are houses in the four to seven thousand square foot range. Though she mostly works in South Florida, Maker has done work for clients in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Most of her work is renovation involving only fixtures and furnishings, and she does very few ground up projects. Maker is an affordable designer who does not charge a design fee and her markup over net is on the low to average side. She will sometimes work as a consultant for an average hourly fee when the project is small or when she can gauge from the beginning how long a project will take her. Satisfied clients say it all, and Maker has a lot of repeat business. She’s even done five projects for a single client.
