FR Review:
Husband and wife team, Jeronimo Perez and Amparo Escolano, have been in the conservation business nearly all their lives. Originally from Spain, the two each trained for eight years in conservation. After that, Perez did an apprenticeship at the Prado Museum and Escolano did hers at the Portraits’ Gallery of the Congress (House of Representatives) in Madrid. In 2003, the pair came to America to work for a Florida conservation company, but after six years, they struck out on their own and opened their own firm.

South Florida Conservation’s real specialty is painting, but Perez and Escolano can work on any painted surface. The firm, however, does not do gilding or frame restoration. Perez and Escolano do all of the work themselves, and most of their jobs come from Palm Beach, though a small percentage is institutions. They have done work for the Society of Four Arts, The Palm Beach Historical Society, and the City of Palm Beach. Most clients are private collectors, but Perez and Escolano do also work with dealers and some galleries. Of note, the two have restored a hundreds of paintings by popular Florida artist, Orville Bulman, and they work with the gallery that handles most of his art.

When you bring your art to South Florida Conservation, Perez and Escolano first examine the piece. If it is a material that they work with and nothing unusual, normally they can give an estimate on the spot based on hours, materials and the size of the piece. Then, they photograph and document the damage thoroughly. Most of the time, the firm requests a 30% to 50% deposit, but if it is a big project lasting several months, they will require prepayment. We hear that Perez and Escolano’s prices are very fair, and that they are very honest with customers. If they cannot help you, they’ll happily direct you to someone who can. For highly trained professionals with a high level of integrity, see South Florida Conservation.

Project Description & Comments:
Gave them 2 nineteenth century paintings to be cleaned. The results were fabulous. They quoted a reasonable price and stuck to it. Went above and beyond requested service because one of the paintings was not structually sound and they performed some restoration to make the painting last for years to come.

Would highly recommend. Reasonably priced, timely service, highly skilled, and professional.

        Cost of Project: $301 - 1,000
