Since 1966, designers and contractors alike have been relying on Carlisle Wide Plank Floors for the “highest-quality wood imaginable.” Founder Dale Carlisle started out as a builder and soon realized how difficult it was to find center cut, old growth materials and restoration timber for wood floors. Taken by the character and quality of old growth wood, Carlisle scoured the Northeast for the right resources to grow a supply business.
Known for being “service-oriented and able to cater to both the trade and the public,” Carlisle has its own mill in New Hampshire in addition to showrooms in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Denver, Stoddard and Boston. Carlisle’s wood is air-dried for six to nine months, kiln-dried for 30 days, and then often pre-finished by hand so that company experts can control color tones for clients to edit in advance. The pre-finishing option is also popular as one contractor explained that it “makes for a more efficient construction timeline.”
Carlisle specializes in Old Growth, Cold Weather, Northeastern American hardwoods which are all single-sourced. It has done projects with White Oak and Walnut from six to sixteen inches wide and Eastern White Pine from five inches to twenty-four inches wide. Timing is four to eight weeks on an order and Carlisle has shipped as far as Kuwait, Hong Kong and Sydney. While projects pop up all over the world, Carlisle is very focused on the New York market. Prices start at $9 per square foot, but can get up to $50 per square foot for highly customized projects. Hailed as a “favorite supplier” for top contractors and designers, Carlisle Wide Plank Floors has no shortage of fans in the industry.
