FR Review:
Known for his southern demeanor and gentlemanly manners, clients refer to Andy Goldsborough as a “true gem,” whose “eye for beauty and balance is exceptional.” Inspired by minimalist clean lines, Goldsborough’s designs retain a modern spirit and approach. As an expert in materials and finishes (for years he taught a class at Parsons on the subject), many clients come to him specifically because they want to use new and interesting products like por de epoxy resin, which looks like water. Goldsborough compares his process to the art world, saying that he likes to take what his clients already have and “curate” a new collection. He encourages clients to buy furnishings, artwork, porcelain, ceramics, and Italian glass – things that will appreciate over time rather than a combination of high/low. Unsurprisingly, about half of Goldsborough’s clients are serious art collectors, and he attends Art Basel in Miami every year.

Goldsborough received his Bachelors of Interior Design from Auburn University in 1989. He relocated to New York and worked for Clodagh Design, Kohn Pedersen Fox Conway, and Selldorf Architects, where he was influenced by the modernist style. He worked on several high-profile projects, including the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas and two exhibitions at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.

In 2001, Goldsborough opened his own business and has kept it small so that he is able to focus on each project. With only one assistant, Goldsborough goes to every meeting and is the sole designer. His firm takes on four to five large projects at once, along with two to three smaller ones. Most of Goldsborough’s work is in the New York area (Tribeca, Upper East and West sides, Flatiron/Chelsea, Hamptons, Westchester, and Upstate New York), but he has worked in Florida and Birmingham. Goldsborough’s work is very high end, with budgets often to match. He charges based on an average design fee and markup that is on the low side of normal. For modern style and an art collector’s sensibility, see Andy Goldsborough.

Representative Client Comments:
“I first met Andy in 2008 when renovating our pied-a-terre in Manhattan. Every room was being gutted when Andy joined the team, and every decision needed his astute eye and brilliant design sense. From paint and fixtures to the last details of furnishings and art, Andy led the way, to a beautiful and perfect living space for our family.” “After purchasing a new home in our hometown of Tallahassee, Florida earlier this year, my first call was to Andy. Although the design challenge is completely different, Andy has brought his expertise and thoughtful approach to the task of using existing furnishings in new ways and choosing new furniture, fixtures, art, and accessories to pull together the disparate styles.” “I cannot imagine a better interior designer, and I am grateful to have found him.” “Andy has an incedible eye, an exceptional work ethic and a very creative mind. His ability and openness to try new things and create an environment that is completely bespoke is very rare in his industry. Andy is like an abstract artist - no fixed formula, but the ability to create innovative beauty out of concepts and ideas." “Andy spent the time to truly understand our home, life style and tastes before presenting a plan that added tremendously to our home.”
