FR Review:
With a lean towards clean, tailored lines, Ascher Davis Architects is known for “client-driven, well-executed” designs. Family friends and co-principals Joshua Davis and Rebecca Ascher both have Ivy League architecture degrees and professional pedigrees to match. (Davis started out at Rossi Architecture and both Ascher and Davis worked for Peter Marino.) Characterized by designs with fluid structure and a focus on process and management, Asher Davis’ team of seven has a reputation for “seamlessly” handling projects from conception through construction.
The core of the business is high end residential, and the majority of work is in the New York tri-state area, though projects are usually no smaller than a one-bedroom apartment. About half of their work incorporates interior design, which Ascher takes charge of for the most part. Fees are a percent based arrangement for architecture and scope, and a design fee based on a percent commission. Clients report, “they don’t nickel and dime you,” and we hear that the company will sometimes negotiate a fixed fee for projects. Interior design fees are based upon a low to average markup over net. Designs are low on chintz, and may be too boring for some, but this firm definitely corners the market for sleek interiors, full of natural light.
Representative Client Comments:
“Josh and Rebecca have a great sense of space. Their designs are light and airy, like someone just opened up all the windows!” “A great, young firm. I like their vibe.” “Easy to talk to.” “They understand the New York style, maybe because they grew up in the city.”
